Obsidian के users आमतौर पर वो लोग होते हैं जो लिखकर सोचते हैं। Vault एक extension है उस तरीके की जिससे आप दुनिया को process करते हैं — meetings, ideas, research, daily notes, project plans। Voice इस pattern में असाधारण रूप से अच्छी तरह फिट होती है, क्योंकि typing की friction उन thoughts को मार देती है जिन्हें आप otherwise capture करते।
यह Mac पर Obsidian में dictate करने की एक guide है — कौन से options काम करते हैं और कौन से workflow patterns वाकई फायदेमंद हैं।
Voice और note-taking इतनी अच्छी जोड़ी क्यों बनाते हैं
जब आप कोई thought type करते हैं, तो आप उसे आमतौर पर छोटा कर देते हैं। आप point तक compress करते हैं, texture छोड़ देते हैं, उस reasoning chain को खो देते हैं जो आपको वहाँ तक ले गई। दो हफ्ते बाद आप note पढ़ते हैं और आपको कोई idea नहीं होता कि यह क्यों लिखा था।
जब आप कोई thought बोलते हैं, texture बची रहती है। आप कहते हैं "मुझे लगता है issue X है, लेकिन मुझे यकीन नहीं क्योंकि Y, और इसे test करने का तरीका Z होगा।" यही वो note है जो महीनों बाद भी useful रहती है। इसे type करना आसान नहीं क्योंकि typing reasoning chain के साथ नहीं चल सकती। बोलना speed match करता है।
Obsidian के लिए specifically — जो पहले messy version capture करने और बाद में linking और revisiting के ज़रिए refine करने को reward करता है — voice capture के bottleneck को हटा देती है।
"Obsidian में dictate करना" का क्या मतलब हो सकता है
तीन अलग चीज़ें:
Note edit करते समय inline dictation। आपका cursor एक note में है, आप hotkey दबाते हैं, बोलते हैं, cursor पर words दिखते हैं। किसी भी text field में dictate करने जैसा। यह सबसे common case है।
Voice notes जो Obsidian notes बन जाते हैं। आप Obsidian के बाहर audio record करते हैं (dictation app या voice memo tool में), और transcript आपके vault में एक नई note में आ जाता है। Longer capture या meetings के लिए बेहतर।
Mobile capture जो sync होता है। iPhone पर बोलते हैं, note same vault में पहुँच जाती है। अलग workflow, आमतौर पर iCloud या Obsidian Sync चाहिए।
यह post mostly पहले दोनों के बारे में Mac पर है। Mobile एक अलग समस्या है।
Option 1: Apple Dictation
Free, macOS के साथ आता है। किसी भी Obsidian note में click करें, Apple Dictation hotkey दबाएं (default है Control को दो बार दबाना, System Settings > Keyboard > Dictation में configurable), बोलें, रोकने के लिए फिर दबाएं।
जहाँ काम करता है:
- Daily note में quick capture
- Meeting note में एक paragraph जोड़ना
- Bullet lists में छोटे sentences
- Template fields भरना
जहाँ नहीं करता:
- PARA, PKM, second-brain vocabulary के technical terms — "Zettelkasten" शायद ही कभी सही transcribe होता है। Library names, software names, jargon — खराब।
- Filler words। "Um", "uh" और false starts सीधे note में जाते हैं। या तो manually edit करें या ऐसी notes के साथ जिएं जो transcript जैसी लगती हैं।
- Long passages। Apple Dictation short bursts के लिए बना है। 5 मिनट के braindump के लिए, आप इससे लड़ेंगे।
- Linking। "Open bracket bracket Project X close bracket bracket" wikilink बनाने का कोई मज़ेदार तरीका नहीं है।
Light use के लिए — typed notes में voice की बूंदें डालना — काम करता है। Voice-first note-taking के लिए, scale नहीं करता।
Option 2: एक local Mac dictation app
यहीं से workflow "occasional voice" से "voice is the primary capture method" में बदलती है।
Vext, Superwhisper, MacWhisper Pro, और VoiceInk जैसी local apps आपके Mac पर speech recognition (Whisper या Parakeet) run करती हैं और cursor पर paste करती हैं। Obsidian के लिए relevant differences:
बेहतर technical vocabulary। Whisper Medium और Parakeet "Zettelkasten", "Andy Matuschak", "Obsidian", "Logseq", "PARA", और software names को Apple के foundation model से noticeably बेहतर handle करते हैं।
Cleanup। Vext का Enhance और Superwhisper के mode-based prompts filler words हटाते हैं और sentence structure को tight करते हैं इससे पहले कि text Obsidian तक पहुँचे। आपकी notes written prose की तरह पढ़ी जाती हैं, transcript की तरह नहीं।
Long-form dictation। Hold-to-talk 30 seconds के लिए काम करता है। Hands-free mode (toggle on, toggle off) 5 minutes के लिए काम करता है। Braindump या stream-of-consciousness note कोई लड़ाई नहीं है।
Privacy। Audio आपके Mac पर रहता है। उन लोगों के लिए जिनकी notes में sensitive thinking है — work strategies, personal reflection, draft writing — यह Slack message dictate करने से ज़्यादा matter करता है।
Obsidian के लिए Vext setup करना
Workflow किसी भी text field जैसी है, लेकिन कुछ settings मदद करती हैं:
- Install:
brew install muvon/tap/vext - Settings > Modes खोलें
- Dictation mode के लिए, default Gemma 3 4B model के साथ Enhance enable करें — cleanup ही है जो spoken notes को readable बनाती है
- Obsidian के लिए YOLO Mode disable करें — आप note के अंदर auto-Enter नहीं चाहते; यह accidental line breaks बनाता है

Longer dictation के लिए:
- Braindumps, daily notes, या catch-everything sessions के लिए hands-free mode use करें (एक बार press करें start करने के लिए, दूसरी बार stop के लिए)
- Enhance के साथ combine करें — cleanup उस rambling को पकड़ती है जो hands-free produce करता है
Option 3: Voice notes standalone Obsidian notes के रूप में
कुछ workflows full audio capture के साथ बेहतर serve होती हैं जहाँ transcript एक नई note में आता है। Examples:
- Meeting record करना और transcript किसी project folder में import करना
- किसी problem के बारे में walk पर 10 minutes बात करना और result एक note के रूप में पाना
- Phone conversation capture करना (consent के साथ) later reference के लिए
Mac पर यह अच्छे से करने वाले tools:
Vext का notes mode। Hotkey दबाएं, जितना चाहें बोलें, release करें। Recording transcribe होती है, Enhance के ज़रिए clean होती है, और Vext में store होती है। फिर आप text को Obsidian में drag कर सकते हैं या copy-paste करके नई note बना सकते हैं। Audio भी रहता है अगर बाद में refer करना हो।
MacWhisper। Audio file drop करें, transcript मिलता है। Voice memos की after-the-fact processing के लिए अच्छा।
बस Apple Voice Memos + manual transcription। Free, ugly। Pinch में काम करता है।
"Transcript becomes a note" flow के लिए, friction यह है कि transcript automatically आपके vault में जाता है या आपको copy-paste करना पड़ता है। अभी तक कोई local Mac dictation app directly Obsidian के vault के साथ integrate नहीं करती, इसलिए यह किसी भी तरह copy-paste step है। (अगर आप कोई community plugin या Hazel rule wire up करें, तो automate कर सकते हैं — लेकिन वह अपना setup project है।)
जो patterns काम करते हैं
कुछ workflows जो लोगों ने adopt की हैं:
Voice paragraphs वाली daily note। सुबह daily note खोलें, कल का reflection dictate करें। Midday status entry dictate करें। Note उससे ज़्यादा भरती है जितनी होती अगर आप सब type करते।
Voice-first capture, typed refinement। Messy first draft बोलें। वापस पढ़ें। Edit करें। First draft 60 seconds, edit 2 minutes। Total time typing के बराबर, लेकिन captured thought richer।
Meeting note with voice summary। Call के दौरान agenda और action items type करें। Call के बाद recap dictate करें — "हमने actually क्या decide किया..." — एक ही block में।
Walking notes। Hands-free mode + AirPods + phone hotspot से walk पर Obsidian में dictate कर सकते हैं। आप एक note के साथ वापस आते हैं, half-remembered idea के साथ नहीं।
जहाँ यह fail होता है
कुछ honest limits:
Markdown syntax अच्छे से dictate नहीं होती। आप खुद को wikilinks के लिए "open bracket bracket" कहने की training दे सकते हैं, लेकिन यह friction है। ज़्यादातर लोग prose dictate करते हैं और markdown अलग से type करते हैं। Vext का Enhance "link to Project X" को [[Project X]] में convert कर सकता है अगर आप इसके लिए prompt करें, लेकिन ज़्यादा reliable pattern है: text dictate करें, links type करें।
Code blocks और technical content। Code dictate करना bad idea है। Code की explanations dictate करना ठीक है।
Multilingual vaults। अगर आप multiple languages में notes लिखते हैं, Apple Dictation आपसे लड़ेगा। Whisper-based apps इसे बेहतर handle करते हैं, translation features के ज़रिए single-pass mode में भी।
iCloud और sync timing। अगर आपका vault iCloud में है और आप Mac पर dictate करते हैं, तो note कभी-कभी iPhone पर कुछ minutes के लिए sync नहीं होती। Voice-specific नहीं, लेकिन जानने लायक।
एक चुनना
Decision tree:
- Light use, occasional dictation: Apple Dictation। Free, पहले से है।
- Voice-first note-taking, polish के लिए एक बार pay: Vext ($49), Superwhisper ($249), या MacWhisper Pro (€64)।
- केवल open-source: VoiceInk।
- Long-form spoken content को standalone notes के रूप में capture करना: Vext का notes mode, या voice memos की after-the-fact transcription के लिए MacWhisper।
